2010 Holiday Shopping: Green Monday a Myth?

Which day has seen the biggest number of orders this Holiday season in the US so far? Most predicted December 13th, known as “Green Monday”. Not so, says Bizrate Insights’ Point-of-Sale survey data. According to our Network of thousands of online retailers, Cyber Monday still rules the Holiday season for the most orders. Cyber Monday was more than twice as big as Green Monday. Which day came in second? Black Friday, which was 46% bigger than Green Monday. But with a few more days left to take advantage of regular or free shipping rates in time for Christmas, the best day may still be up for grabs….

Bizrate Insights Reviews on Facebook

We are proud to unveil a new Bizrate Insights feature that that allows customers to share their online shopping experiences with their Facebook friends.

Following the submission of a Bizrate Buyers’ Survey, both Point-of-Sale and Order Fulfillment, customers can “share” their experience with friends via their Facebook wall.  The post includes a link to the retailer’s report card page on Bizrate.com, and may include an image, such as the merchant’s logo, Circle of Excellence medal, or current rating smiley face.  Customers also have the option to include a short comment with their posting.  So far, we have seen some great retailer endorsements.

So what does this mean for retailers? Let’s take a look!

  • Enhanced Credibility- The experiences of real customer transactions will help build consumer confidence for retailers.

Search for “Bizrate” in the Facebook search bar located at the top of the page and select “See more results for Bizrate” page from the drop-down:

Bizrate Insights and Forrester Research Cyber Monday Post-Mortem

The first of many collaborative posts between Forrester and Bizrate Insights has been published! Check out Sucharita Mulpuru’s post on her blog. We found out what online buyers think about Thanksgiving Weekend, CyberMonday, and shipping during this holiday season. The most interesting point is that buying is shifting online, with 45% of online buyers saying “I shopped online instead of in stores because there were better deals online.”

Bizrate Insights Announces Record Point-of-Sale Submissions for Cyber Monday 2010

Black Friday 2010 was big, but Cyber Monday 2010 was even bigger! The 5,000+ retailers in Bizrate’s North American Network produced sales volume that broke all prior records. Congratulations!!!

2009 was the first year in which Bizrate Insights survey volume on Cyber Monday surpassed Black Friday’s volume. That has continued into 2010 with an even bigger spread between the two holidays.

“We are thrilled that consumers are not only buying online more this year, but also sharing their experiences with retailers and other consumers more,” stated Hayley A. Silver, Senior Director, Bizrate Insights. “When we see happy customers and online retail clients growing as a result, then we know that we are on the right track and providing a service to both.”

Using some back-of-the-envelope math and really rough estimates based on survey submissions, our clients produced a healthy 10% of all online orders* for the day!
